Lesser flamingos (Phoeniconaias minor) congregate in huge flocks on the alkaline lakes of the Great Rift Valley in east Africa, the only places where they can find food. Lesser flamingos are the smallest of the six species of flamingos - and the most numerous. These birds breed on Lake Natron in northern Tanzania but regularly visit other lakes. (This image was taken at Momella Lake in Arusha National Park.)
