The Greater Flamingo is the most widespread of the six species of flamingos and is found on five continents. They favor estuaries and saline or alkaline lakes where monogamous pairs take turns incubating a single egg. Their brilliant color is dependent on their specific diets which include shrimp, crustaceans, plankton, and algae. These birds live to be 30+ in the wild and as long as 50 years in captivity.
