The Spirit Bear
Otherwise known as Kermode Bears, this rare subspecies of the American black bear is the result of a recessive gene that causes a lack of melanin in the fur. About on ein ten cubs born in the few areas of BC where these bears are found exhibits the white gene, and only between 100 and 400 individuals are thought to exist anywhere in the world, making it the among the rarest ( if not the rarest) bear.
