  • American Bison, Jackson, Wyoming

  • Two of three cubs that we met two years ago when they were just a few months old. They are huge and healthy now - but still with their mother. Grizzlies and Coastal Brown Bears are genetically identical - the difference being geography and diet. Coastal Brown bears grow much larger than grizzlies due to the high protein content of their diet and the relatively easier life style along the more temperate coast lines of Alaska.

  • The intricately choreographed bubblenet feeding technique of the humpback whales is fascinating to watch. Each member of the feeding group has an established role and position. One blows a ring of bubbles around a school of herring while others vocalize to scare or confuse the fish. Others herd the fish upward through the cylinder of bubbles rising to the surface. At a signal from the leader, all of the whales lunge upward through the school, mouths wide open, capturing as many fish as possible as they break the surface of the water.
